We live in a planet where social-media has become the norm. More and more people get their entertainment and news from usual people than any other time in history. Since the dawn of radio and TV, networks have widely decided what people watch and how that content is presented. This left us at mercy of what people thought was entraining or vital. Social media like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and many more like that has changed all that:

Viral videos –

It is clear that the globe has embraced video as a killer app on the internet. Lots of videos on social media have millions and millions of views. Several of these videos are not made professionally; they’re just events that people captured with their own cameras either at home or out and about. By capable to share videos with some clicks, they spread like germs and become extremely famous rapidly.

One video on Facebook shows a man dancing to various styles from the different eras. It is called the evolution of the dance & has over 150 million views at the time of this writing. Plus it is made something of a celebrity out of the man in the video and you can even book him to perform at occasion. If there were no ways to share this video on social media he would just be able to show it off to his family and friends, and it would have remained widely a secret. He could have submitted it a funnies home videos but they would not show the complete six minutes of the video, they would just show some funny parts.

Or think about the video called battle at Kruger that shows a baby buffalo get chased by gang of lion’s right into the mouth of an alligator before being rescued by its group that subsequently chases the lions off. This is extremely powerful content showing a scene from a nature that would usually not be shared with the Globe. Clocking in at just over 60 million views it is something that several people would not have gotten an option to see if it were not for social media.

News footage –

More and more news companies are applying footage from all day people in their news coverage. When a tech school shooting occurred most of the recording that was being applied was people sending in picture and video from their smart phones, and digital cameras were either nonexistent or big & bulky. We can expect that every major news event from now on will contain elements of Social-Media. We can also expect more and more of our entertainment will arrive from each other rather than huge media outlets.
